The 5 Best Auto Shops in Winnipeg for Windshield Replacement
Collisions, fallen debris, and even extreme weather―reasons to replace your windshield are often pretty serious. And while we don’t have new glass to replace it on hand, we can point you to places that do.
To make the replacement process as smooth as possible, you’ll want the expertise of the best installers in the city. We’ve listed the ones that not only carry quality products but also have experience with various car models and insurance claims.
We also answer some common questions later on―but before that, let’s talk about options for handling the costs.
How much does windshield replacement cost in Winnipeg?
Depending on your situation, help can come from auto shops, glass specialists, and even collision centres.
Although you can buy a windshield and try to install it yourself, inexperience can lead to oversight and more expenses down the line. To have it done professionally, here’s what you can expect to pay compared to just buying a windshield yourself:
SERVICE | ESTIMATED COST |
Brand new windshield | $150 ‒ $325 |
New windshield and installation | $190 ‒ $400 |
Additional stone chip repairs on other glass surfaces | $50 + $25 for additional chips |
Windshield camera recalibration for ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) | $225‒$250 |
Another saving grace that can help with this expense is auto insurance―but only if you use it wisely. Your basic (and mandatory) coverage will come from Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI), but there’s a bit of a catch.
It’s important to note that deductibles are set a bit higher than the cost of windshield replacement by default. Remember: a deductible is basically the upfront cost of activating your insurance claim.
VEHICLE TYPE | MPI INSURANCE DEDUCTIBLE |
Private vehicles, vans, vehicles for hire, light trucks | $750 |
Trucks and tankers carrying fuel, chemicals, and cargo | $ 1,200 |
This shouldn’t be too much of a problem if your windshield damage is tied to a full-fledged collision repair (including body work and more). Afterall, $750 is a relatively small price to pay for a repair worth thousands of dollars.
However, if it’s just your windshield that needs changing, paying this deductible will actually lose you money. There are two ways to fix this: you either buy down your deductible in advance with higher premiums or pay the cost without filing a claim.
Alternatively, if another person is at fault, then you will still need to pay your deductible for the claim. The upside is that this amount will be refunded by how much the other person is at fault.
Best Shops for Windshield Replacement in Winnipeg
We know that was a bit technical but now that we’ve discussed the subject of cost, here are places that can restore your car’s glass. These are our picks for the top windshield installers in Winnipeg:
1. ACR Auto Glass
SERVICES | Full Service Windshield Repair & Installation, Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) Recalibration |
WEBSITE | www.acrautoglass.com |
ADDRESS | 3331 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3K 0W8, Canada |
CONTACT DETAILS | Phone: (204) 254 5277 Email: info@acrautoglass.com |
OPERATING HOURS | Monday to Friday: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Saturday: 9:00 am – 1:00 pm Closed for all long weekends |
ACR is an auto glass specialist that offers windshield repair and installation. While it’s not a full-on collision centre, it’s still a great place to have your auto glass replaced.
We say this because their services are up-to-date and have long-term benefits.
For one, having your windshield replaced means that you’ll need to recalibrate any fancy sensors from the old one, which they do for you using Opti-Aim™. It’s nice to see this aftermarket solution at ACR, as it saves you the extra step of having it done at another service centre.
Another thing we like about ACR is that they offer additional support through their Windshield Repair Program. Comprehensive insurance will get you free repairs, while basic plans (like MPI’s Autopac) merit a 50% discount.
We recommend this program if your car or fleet is constantly exposed to occupational or hobby-related risks. Think autosport, frequent camping trips, or close proximity to construction sites.
An added benefit of the program is that you can visit the shop during staffed hours without having to schedule an appointment. If you live far from the shop, consider their mobile service―it’s also a welcome addition for more remote incidents.
They’re open on Saturdays too, which can be a real lifesaver if you’re in a crunch. Plan your visits with holidays in mind though, because some Mondays and Fridays tend to get swallowed by long weekends.
Pros
- Equipped with Opti-Aim™ for sensor calibration
- Convenient windshield repair program
- No appointment needed
- Mobile service available
- Open on Saturdays
Cons
- Services are glasswork only
- Closed for all long weekends
- Less accessible from East Winnipeg

2. Glass Lab

OPERATING HOURS | Monday to Friday: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Closed on weekends |
Any list concerning auto glass in Winnipeg wouldn’t be complete without Glass Lab. For us, it’s earned a spot here because of its leading customer care and safety-minded services.
If you’ve never been a fan of paperwork, they can sort out all the documents for the glass claim for you. This makes it easier to get a new windshield and move forward from an already stressful situation.
Apart from setting you up with a windshield, they have other services that can improve your visibility behind the wheel. Their F3 Fusion™ headlight restoration comes to mind, and is ideal if your lights have turned cloudy through wear and tear.
While it does nothing for your windshield upfront, good visibility can help you avoid accidents in the future. From a preventive standpoint, it makes a lot of sense and we’re glad they’ve included it alongside their windshield solutions.
Additionally, we think business owners in the transport industry can really benefit from their Fleet Management Program. Declaring a fleet with them makes it easier to order parts in advance and schedule repairs more efficiently.
Their mobile service is also a plus for large vehicles, especially when you’d rather not pay a fortune to tow a semi. This feature is also available for private cars, but for both cases, Glass Lab doesn’t do body repairs (not even in their shop).
For more serious accidents you’d need to visit a collision centre. Also keep in mind that they’re closed on weekends but try to make up for it by providing same-day service whenever possible.
Pros
- Sorts insurance paperwork for you
- Offers headlight restoration
- Large scale maintenance through Fleet Management Program
- Mobile service available
Cons
- Services are glasswork only
- Less accessible from West Winnipeg
- Closed on weekends

3. Glasgow Collision Centre

If you want a windshield replacement shop with decades of experience on its side, consider Glasgow Collision Centre. They’ve been serving the area since 1959, and are equipped for full-body auto restoration.
This is something you’d want to consider when met with more serious accidents. They carry an I-Car Gold Class certification, which means they’ve been nationally approved for quality collision repairs.
Because of this certification, Glasgow is also favoured by insurers. It’s something you’d definitely want in a repair shop, especially if you have comprehensive insurance on top of what MPI has to offer.
One inherent downside to collision centres in general is mixed inventory, and Glasgow is no exception. Because there are more types of parts to order for collision repairs, there’s less chance they already have your windshield in stock.
It’s not a total bummer, especially if your car needs a full-body repair and you have to wait a while anyway. But, if you’re pressed for time and just need your glass replaced, it could get in the way (so it’s best to call first).
Apart from that, we do like the fact that they offer courtesy cars and have a shuttle service ready. It’s a huge convenience to still be able to get around despite the equally huge inconvenience of totalling your car.
Pros
- Over half a century of experience with collision repair
- I-Car Gold Class certified
- Experience with different types of insurance
- Courtesy cars and shuttle service available
Cons
- Closed on weekends and shorter hours on Fridays
- Less chance of having your windshield model on hand

Got shuttled to and from work while having window replaced
“I was very happy with the service I got at Glasgow Collision Centre. This was the first time I had ever gotten a window replaced and the whole process was smooth and easy. I dropped my car off during my lunch break, they gave me a ride back to work and picked me up at the end of the day by which time my car was ready to go. They also cleaned my car for me which was a bonus.”

Another veteran repair shop we recommend for windshield replacement is Pembina Auto Body & Glass. With its central location, industry experience, and numerous certifications, it’s one of the go-to services of truck drivers and private car owners alike.
In case your windshield takes a hit anywhere in the Exchange district, Pembina Auto Body could (literally) be right up your alley. The fact that it’s just a stone’s throw away from most traffic-laden areas in central Winnipeg is already a plus.
We’re pleased to note that they have all the perks of having an I-Car Gold Class rating. They’ve also garnered accreditation from MPI, the BBB, and even the Manitoba Automotive Trades Association.
While these credentials are impressive on paper, don’t just take their word for it. We’ve looked into customer feedback too, and a poor review is nowhere to be found.
A lot of it has to do with their affordable, prompt, and professional service. Based on our survey, people like that they’re generous with their time and effort without holding up queues.
Customers also report fast turnarounds with MPI claims and other insurance-related processes. You can even file an eGlass claim through their office to get your coverage processed even quicker.
While they do well with the important things, we wish they offered courtesy cars and sensor recalibration. As long as that’s not a deal-breaker for you, the quality service at competitive rates will already get you great value for money.
Pros
- Central location
- Over 50 years of industry experience
- Multi-certified service
- Fast turnaround with claims
- Competitive prices

Excellent communication during an MPI claim
“We recently had an MPI claim, and Pembina Auto Body & Glass were amazing with every aspect of the repair. They were prompt and always professional. We appreciated the excellent communication throughout the whole process. They went the extra mile! I would recommend them to anyone.”―Robyn Olfert
The price was better than 3 other quotes
“Had my windshield replaced at Pembina. The price was better than the other 3 quotes I got and my van was washed when I got it back. I had some paint damage where a planter dripped acid or something on the hood and etched the paint, but that was polished out when I picked up the van! Kyle was great to deal with and the service was beyond excellent!”―Jarod Matwiy
Generous with their time and extra services
“Luc (the owner) and the team took great care of me, and did more than expected to get my truck glass installed as if from the factory. The extra things included minor repairs to my truck to make the glass fit better (new holders of some sort), taking time to give detailed quotes on other work I was considering (but didn’t go ahead with), staying after hours to meet me after work, and squeezing me in before they took were closed for a few days of summer vaca. Very well done & highly recommended.”―Dawson Reimer
5. Exact Auto Glass

Another glass service done right in our books is Exact Auto Glass. They deserve to be mentioned here for their efficient mobile service and additional offerings.
With 5 shining stars in Google Reviews, a lot of the praise has to do with the convenient way their mobile service is set up. There are two ways you can use this feature, so we’ll go through each one.
For heavier vehicles that are harder to transport to the shop, Exact Auto Glass can send a team to your location and work on the repairs there. We think this is particularly useful for semis or tankers that are stuck in lay-bys and other remote areas.
The other way you can use the mobile service is if you want your car picked up for a windshield replacement. This way, you can have them work on it in their shop while you tend to other things.
A few hours later, you can have the car delivered back to you with brand new glass and even newly calibrated sensors if you so choose. We see this being especially convenient for home pickups and drop offs, where you don’t even have to leave your place to have it all done.
Regardless of which mode you choose, you’ll be pleased to know that their mobile service is free within 25 km of Winnipeg. They also offer courtesy cars, but those are only bookable on a first come, first served basis.
A tonne of customer reviews also point to speedy completion times, which we appreciate. This checks out considering that Exact Auto Glass likes to stock up on common windshield models.
As for processing any glass claims, you can simply fill out a form and they’ll sort the documentation for you. Again, this isn’t a full-on collision centre, so unless you have a low deductible on your plan, you may be better off paying for the replacement yourself.
Pros
- Open on Saturdays
- Free and convenient mobile service 25 km from Winnipeg
- Speedy completion times
- Large glass inventory
- Insurance claimable online
Cons
- Services are glasswork only
- ADAS recalibration is in-shop only
